Minnesota Twins Pitcher Joe Nathan is done, who will fill his shoes?

Minnesota Twins Pitcher Joe Nathan, who is going to be able to fill this guys shoes

Minnesota Twins Pitcher Joe Nathan will be spending the 2010 inaugural Target Field Twins Season on the bench. The Twins Pitcher will undergo elbow surgery on Friday after a tear that the Twins PR team is calling "severe" kept Nathan from pitching to the best of his ability. Joe Nathan will be out of commission for the rest of the season. Typically the surgery Joe Nathan will be having takes a full 12 month recovery period. But a confident Joe Nathan told reporters that he was positive he would be back for the Minnesota Twins Home Opener 2011.

With Joe Nathan gone, the question is left.. Who will be pitching into Joe Mauer's glove? For starters the Minnesota Twins have come to an agreement with lefty Ron Mahay. Ron Mahay will be a relief pitcher for the Twins, the lefty has had 13 years of experience in the major leagues pitching for 8 different teams... the experience and confidence on the field may be the best thing Ron Mahay brings to the table.

Also in the Bullpen Mix for the Minnesota Twins will be Scott Baker, Nick Blackburn,Clay Condrey, Jesse Crain and Francisco Liriano with lots of options when it comes to pitchers on the 40 man active roster, the Minnesota Twins will have some tough decisions to make before the Twins Home Opener at Target Field.

Get Well Soon Joe!

Joe Mauer officially a Minnesota Twins Player until 2018... insert sigh of relief here

A collective sigh of relief was let out yesterday when the Minnesota Twins and Joe Mauer announced that the hometown golden boy from Cretin would be staying in the Twin Cities until 2018. The MN Twins and Joe Mauer came to an 8 year, $184 million contract extension.

"It's the fourth-largest contract -- both in total value and annual salary ($23 million) -- in Major League history" -mlb.com. Local Twins Fans and Critics are saying it is one of the best things that could have happened to the Minnesota Twins. With Joe Mauer a part of the Twins Line up until 2018, the Minnesota Twins may have the "star power" necessary to pull in some other big names. Players respect Joe and want to be on his team...

With the added revenue from advanced Twins Target Field Tickets, it seems like the Twins have this years pay increase covered... it will be interesting to see what the Minnesota Twins do to insure they have what it takes to pay Mauer what they have promised him, especially considered it is rumored Mauer's contract alone could be as much as 25% of the Twins Salary Budget.

Joe Nathan injured, and Minnesota Twins Roster is in question

Joe Nathan

The Minnesota Twins were dealt a tough blow this week. All Star Joe Nathan was diagnosed with torn ulnar collateral ligament in his right elbow. Nathan found out he had bone chips in his elbow last season which were removed in the off-season. In Saturday's Spring Training Game Nathan's elbow tightened up revealing bigger problems.

No official decision has been made about Nathan's future this season, though the powers that be are hopeful that he pulls through because as they see it, Nathan is "irreplaceable".

"I'm going to do whatever I can right now,'' Nathan said in a press conference, "to give myself the best chance to go out there and help this team out. But at the same time, I'm not going let this go on too long. I know these guys have a decision to make, and they've got to prepare for the season, too."

Minnesota Twins Spring Training Games Start Thursday

The Minnesota Twins have been in Florida for a few weeks now, thawing out their game and getting ready for Twins Spring Training 2010. With just a few days left until the first Minnesota Twins Spring Training Game, things are starting to become more and more real for the Twins Roster.

One Twins Roster decision that has been made already is the pitching rotation for the first six games in Florida. Starting things off for the Minnesota Twins Pitchers on Thursday against the Boston Red Sox will be Nick Blackburn and Kevin Slowey. On Friday Carl Pavano will have a shot and Saturday's game will feature Minnesota Twins Pitcher Francisco Liriano. Rounding out the rest of the pitching rotation will be Scott Baker and Brian Duensing.

Twins manager Ron Gardenhire told press, "There is some competition here with some depth. There is going to be some pretty good pitching going to (Class) AAA that won't make our staff and that you have to have. I think we are solidifying that depth problem by getting a few people healthy. We'll have some options."
