TWINS WIN-recap of Wednesday's 9/25 Game Against the Yankee's

Twins 5, Yankees 4. 

What?! This winning score is not something Twins fans are used to seeing. 

Denard Span doubled in the tying and go-ahead runs during a four-run seventh inning as our hosts, Minnesota, battled back to topple the New York Yankees.

Joe Mauer, who was lookin' good, went 3-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored and Chris Parmelee doubled in a run for the Twins, who are embracing the spoiler role with wins in three of their last four games against the Detroit Tigers and the Yankees. What a surprise!

Phil Hughes (16-13) cruised through the first six innings but loaded the bases with one out in the seventh before being replaced by left-hander Boone Logan. The veteran reliever uncorked a wild pitch to narrow the gap to one run before Span reached down for a 3-2 slider and lined it into the gap in right-center to plate a pair. Mauer made it a 5-3 lead with an RBI single later in the frame.

Casey Fien (2-1) ended up with the win in relief and Jared Burton pitched a perfect eighth. Glen Perkins served up a solo homer to Jones but managed to get the final three outs for his 15th save.

Wanna know a secret? I went to this Tuesday's game, mainly because I have a roommate who is a Brewers fan and I wanted her to see Twins action AND because we got really cheap, great tickets through my internship. But, I had SO much homework so we left at the top of the 7th inning, not expecting the Twins to come back and win the game. But. They did. My bad.

Okay, out with the truth.

I only went to two Twins games this summer. I know, I know. I'm sorry. No excuses just play harder.

So last week, feeling very regretful, and with eight home games left, I spent all week badgering anyone and everyone I know (like my cute Spanish partner and my roommates friends) to go to a game with Ticket King's FIVE DOLLAR TICKETS. (http://www.ticketkingonline.com/ResultsEvent.aspx?event=Minnesota+Twins&pid=677)  Now, I am very confused why no one accepted this offer.... Maybe because it's the first full week of school? I guess college kids hardly have time to sleep, let alone go to a four hour Twins game.

So, last night I was eating dinner at 6:30 when I got a call from my best friend from work, Lesley. "Raaach what are you doing? My dad just gave me two Twins tickets in the dugout, wanna go?"

Umm yess...

So she picked me up and it was the best Twins experience I've had in a long time (even though Joe Mauer didn't play and the Twins haven't even been playing decently....).

And I'm trying to convince my lovely parents to have a family day on Sunday and take a trip out to Target Field.

Only two home weekends of Twins baseball left, people! Get your tickets now before you feel regretful, like I did!

The Twins jumped out to a 4-0 lead on Friday, but starter Liam Hendriks could not hold it, and Minnesota's bullpen could do no better. David Huff meanwhile, retired all 10 batters he faced to help the Indians win. Russ Canzler hit his first Major League home run for Cleveland.

Hopefully the Twins can make a come back tonight!

MN Twins Joe Mauer on Waivers

Even though there aren't any signs that the Twins are looking to move Joe Mauer, a $184 million man, they still popped him on the waiver to test the waters on other teams interest.

Oh, why oh why? Do they like to stress people out or something? Fans were in a frenzy about even the possibility of this Cretin Alum getting traded.

So, there are no signs that an actual trade will happen. Why do it then? The strategic placing on the waiver will remain a mystery. But, fans can feel a whole lot better knowing that in Mauers contract, he has vetoing rights. And, let's be honest, why would he ever want to leave?

Twins Granted 2014 All-Star Game

On Wednesday, commissioner Bud Selig gave high praise to Target Field and the Twins. Wait........ The Twins? It's been a hard season, so this surprises me. Selig said that "Target Field is just spectacular. Every time I'm here, I just can't tell you how impressive it is."

AND according to the Star Tribune, hosting the All-Star game in 2014 could (and let's be real, probably will) add $75 million to our local economy. So, we can't really complain about that, can we?

Here's some info about getting tickets:

• Twins season-ticket holders have first dibs. 
• Other fans will have to buy the entire package of All-Star Game related events (these will probably not be cheap but it's a once in a lifetime experience, so it's okay if you SPLURGE) 
• There will be some tickets available for general admission.

So....... Who's already excited?? I know I am! Mark your calenders for July 15th, 2014.

Denard Span Reexamined

Twins favorite, Denard Span, has missed seven games because of a sore clavicle. So this outfielder was examined again. He had a magnetic resonance imaging exam on his neck on Monday, and this came back negative. Today he will get a MRI of his right clavicle.

This injury of Denard Span is from August 12 when he tried to make a falling catch in the center field. He thought it was a minor injury and would feel better in a few days, but it still is causing him discomfort.

Twins Redemption

Well. The Minnesota Twins can feel better about themselves the Monday after playing great and beating Oakland 7-2 to open the three-game series.

Twins manager, Ron Gardenhire is not entertained, especially after the Twins lost 9 out of 10 games. But he remained positive. "It's about us getting back to winning ballgames, playing a better brand of baseball ourselves." Nicely put.

Drew Butera and the Humane Society

What's better than baseball and puppies? Ummm nothing.

Pineda for Valencia

On Sunday, The Boston Red Sox and our Minnesota Twins conducted a trade during the finale of the three game series that will send our Danny Valencia (third baseman) to the Sox Nation in exchange for their minor-league outfielder, Jeremias Pineda. 

Eh. 

Overall, this season with the Twins, Valencia hit .198 with two home runs and 17 RBI over 126 at-bats. He DID, however, lead the Twins in RBI in 2011 with 72 as he hit 15 home runs along with a .246 batting average, but his  defensive struggles angered the team’s coaches and he always seemed to be in Ron Gardenhire’s doghouse.... oops. 

As for Pineda, he hit .421 with 22 RBI and 14 stolen bases over 133 at-bats for Boston’s rookie league team. Prior to the 2011 season, the Sox signed him out of the Dominican Republic. 

And at just 21 years old, he may have some youthful potential, which can only mean good things for out Minnesota Twins.

Morneau at his Best

Last night the Twins played at Progressive Field with a 14-3 victory over the Indians. What a game! It sure feels good to win, doesn't it, Twins?!

Justin Morneau was the star of the game, hitting two home runs to finally get to 200 career homers!



This is a big deal for Morneau, considering he has been focusing on healing after two concussions AND wrist surgery. When asked about it, Morneau said, "If you had asked me at some point last year if I would have even got to here, I wouldn't have been able to tell you for sure".

Well, the Minnesota Twins just could not pull off their third straight win on last night on Wednesday where they had a 2-1 loss to Baltimore. Maybe it was the heat?


Although there were plenty of promising signs within the loss:


- Trevor Plouffe, third baseman, extended his hitting streak to 16 games. Congrats!


-Francisco Liriano, pitcher, striked out 10 men.


Unfortunately, the Twins just couldn't pull through, even after opening the series with a pair of victories! 


Who's going to the game tonight? Come on Twins, turn it around!
