Twins Win Two Over Oakland

Well, Minnesota... looks like we have a winning streak on our hands!

Before the win on Monday over the Oakland Athletics, the Twins were 0-28 when heading into the 8th trailing their opponent.

The Twins beat Oakland on Monday after trailing. The Twins beat Oakland on Tuesday after trailing. The wins are great! Especially as we are tied with the Chicago Cubs for the worst record in baseball. However, I would argue the more important aspect of the games is the ability of the Twins to overcome a deficit.

Keep it up, boys. We need more wins to get out of the cellar.

Are the New York Yankees For Sale?

The news appears to be all over baseball. I found it here.

Are the Steinbrenners really considering relinquishing their dynasty in terms of Yankee ownership? Are the Steinbrenners really thinking about selling the New York Yankees?

The Los Angeles Dodgers sold for $2.175b this spring, sold to the 'Magic Johnson Group'. Experts compare the potential sale of the Bronx Bombers to the April sale, only to state the Yankees would likely be worth a whopping $3b.

Those same experts state it might be bad business to not sell the Yankees. The family purchased the team back in 1973 for a $8.8m. Is ignoring profit of potentially over $2.9 billion bad business? Or should the dynasty stay?

The legends of the Yankees are in decline. With Mariano Rivera's freak knee injury and Alex Rodriguez and Derek Jeter in the twilight of their careers, the Yankees are old. The age of the team might not be as critical if other teams in the AL East weren't getting younger... but they are. The Rays and the Orioles are giving the East a run this year, despite the division being dominated by the Yankees for years.

The Steinbrenners have denied any potential transaction.

Walters Holds White Sox, Morneau Boosts Twins

The Minnesota Twins bullpen hasn't had a whole lot to smile about this year. Then came P.J. Walters.

Walters threw his first career complete game as the Twins routed the Chicago White Sox 9-2 on Tuesday.

Five relievers combined to throw 6 1/3 innings in the Twins 16-4 loss to the Brewers. Five were used for an inning apiece in Saturday's 11 inning win.

Walters (2-1) cruised in his third start of the season to snap Chicago's four-game winning streak. He gave up a solo homer to Gordon Beckham with one out in the first inning. Walters allowed little else. He struck out eight and allowed just five hits and two runs.

Minnesota's offense came to life early (coming to life at all this season has been a rarity). The Twins sent nine men to the plate in the second inning against Gavin Floyd. Alexi Casilla's two-run double put the Twins on the board. Jamey Carroll and Denard Span followed with run-scoring singles.

Justin Morneau hit a three-run homer for the Twins.

Cross your fingers for another win tonight. I hate the White Sox ;)

Diamond takes the mound.

Danny Valencia Slumping, 0-for-17

Ron Gardenhire only has a handful of infield configurations available to him. Limitations in player swaps leave the slumping Danny Valencia without a day off.

Valencia is 0-for-17 in May. He struck out for the fourth time this month on Monday. He is hitting .207 for the season, and his on-base-plus-slugging percentage is just .536.

Alexi Casilla (recovering from a bruised throwing shoulder) and Jamey Carroll can play second base, third base and shortstop. Brian Dozier played all three positions in the minor leagues.

Scott Diamond Adds Fire to Twins Rotation

Scott Diamond was pulled after only three innings in Triple-A Rochester. The pull wasn't a result of Diamond performing poorly, it was to preserve him for his Major League call-up.

The Twins will use Diamond to replace Liam Hendriks in the rotation. The hope is that Diamond will bring some fire to the Twins rotation. The Twins currently have the worst rotation in the majors. Minnesota's starters have a 6.73 ERA - almost a full run worse than every other starting rotation in the majors. That same rotation has stuck out a major league-worst 4.66 batters per nine innings.

Scott Diamond came to the Twins with a 4-1 record and a 2.60 ERA.

After Tuesday's game, Diamond moved to 1-0 for the Twins. The Twins beat the Angels 5-0 as Diamond pitched seven scoreless innings. Diamond allowed just four hits.
